A luminous homage to the Monarch's transgenerational life, a symbol of continuity, collective wisdom and duty to future generations. From an earthly hand emerges hundreds of fused-glass monarchs forming a “kaleidoscope” (the name of a collective noun of butterflies), flying overhead.

The swarm arcs along a 10-foot tall, 25-foot wide spine that emerges from a wooden open palm hand. Hundreds of handmade fused-glass butterflies fly overhead as a portal for participants to walk through, creating an immersive experience within the murmuration. At night, lights within each butterfly illuminate the wings from within. The structure naturally frames the desert horizon, serving as a site for spontaneous ceremonies, photography, or shared quietude.

"Kaleidoscope" is a meditation on inheritance and stewardship. This piece uses the Monarch's transgenerational migration, a journey spanning lifetimes sustained by collective instinct rather than individual effort, as a mirror for human legacy.

Just as Monarchs rely on the swarm for survival, the fabrication of this installation is our philosophy in action: it is built through community collaboration. Each butterfly is hand made and decorated by our friends and family. By coming together to create this murmuration, we demonstrate our own reliance on the collective  and the wisdom we pass to those who follow.
